Just a friend?

This is another attempt to write based on the inspiration from the style of poetry in Urdu, called Ghazal.

A small dream broke out,
with no grounds to fly on;
seemed like the journey would be long,
with no clear path to walk on;
then, a simple question remained;
Are you just a friend?

There was lots of fun,
while building that little song;
though hours were spent,
it never seemed long;
then, a simple question remained;
Are you just a friend?

A day was long awaited,
expecting the joy never seen;
and as that day came by,
was in a situation I’d never been;
then, a simple question remained;
Are you just a friend?

Years passed by,
without seeing each other;
with a little thought that kept coming back,
what if we were just together;
then, a simple question remained;
Are you just a friend?

Awaiting was this heart,
for everything to fall in place;
which would never understand,
that, in your heart, there was no space;
then, a simple question remained;
Are you just a friend?

Here goes my journey,
with feelings deep as roots;
in this fair land,
that can’t bear new fruits;
then, a simple answer emerged,
you be everything, and I, just a friend!
